Learn More Our Story What We Do Learn More Why We Do It Learn More Our Story OUR STORY Daughters of Cambodia was founded in 2007 by British psychologist Ruth Elliott, who sought to create effective, modern solutions to sex-trafficking and sex-exploitation that move beyond the traditional institutional model. Her vision was to offer those trapped in sex-work the opportunity to walk free and to equip them with tools and skills that will transform their lives, sustainably. The first step in walking free is to provide employment and skills training, which we do in our ethical businesses, enabling precious human beings to leave sex work immediately. We train them, not only in workplace skills, but also in skills for living, to raise their capacity for decision-making, reduce risk, and bring about changes in mind-set. We provide recovery programs, through our social work and medical departments, to target psychological distress, healing of trauma, family dysfunction and health needs. We are especially rewarded by the outcome of those who are promoted to staff positions, from starting out as program beneficiaries. Having transformed their lives, developed new skills, and grown in character and leadership, they become amazing leaders and mentors to the newer girls. We have amazing and dedicated teams, working in areas of outreach, social work, healthcare, training, business, discipleship & spiritual growth, administration, childcare, finance, government compliance, HR, and PR/communications, to ensure standards of excellence in every area. As followers of Jesus Christ, it is our joy to offer those in our programs the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ, and to be discipled, so that they experience freedom, healing and life transformation that Jesus brings. We operate an on-site church and discipleship programs. Attendance is voluntary.

"In that brothel, I felt like I was in hell and would never escape. I thought I would die there, never to return home. I couldn’t believe I had become a sex worker. I felt so hopeless, so worthless, like I had no value. I was trapped in that brothel for an entire year." — Client VNK WHY WE EXIST Daughters of Cambodia exists to provide a lifeline for sex workers seeking a way out. Our mission is to help them walk permanently free from the sex industry and experience holistic healing across every area of their lives. We recognize that sex-exploitation is a violation of their human rights, is not God's design for them, and is destructive to every area of their lives, psychologically, socially, physically and spiritually. UNDERSTAND COMMERCIAL SEXUAL EXPLOITATION In Cambodia, commercial sexual exploitation has escalated over recent decades into a vast “industry” affecting children, young women, and young men. Many complex factors trap young people in this life, making escape nearly impossible: Social stigma and lack of education leave few alternative job options. Trauma from sexual abuse destroys hope and self-worth, often leading victims to the sex industry. Family obligations to support their families financially, even at great personal cost. Cultural beliefs that making a sacrifice of your life to support your family will lead to a better reincarnation. Avoidance of shelters—many victims prefer not to live in shelters, wanting to maintain dignity, choice, and ties to their families and communities. The young people who come to Daughters from the sex industry do so voluntarily, because they are looking for change. Daughters of Cambodia does not run a shelter; we provide jobs, and capacity building, teaching them how to bring about transformation in their lives. So, instead of fostering institutional dependence, they live in the community and retain family and community relationships whilst learning a new mindset and skills to create sustainable change within their social and cultural contexts. Our approach centres on empowering them to experience transformation that is internal, voluntary, and sustainable—not imposed. Our social work team secure safe housing for those needing safety. OUR FOUNDATION The catalyst for our mission is the gospel of Jesus Christ, who offers life and hope to the world. Isaiah 61:1-3 is one bible passage that is integral to our mission: "The Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners....to comfort all who mourn...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." Jesus' love, grace and transformational power is the reason behind our mission for this work. CHNT's Story Why We Do It

They usually come to Daughters in a poor state of health, including sexually transmitted diseases. We provide treatment and also health education classes on-site. We have partnerships with several fantastic external medical service providers, who provide specialist treatment to our clients. As a result of this, their health is able to make a full recovery! IMG_0866 IMG_0867 41726732424_5385b11dca_o IMG_0866 1/11 DAYCARE We provide free day-care for our clients' pre-school children. The children of our clients are often left at home alone or unsupervised in the community. The risk factors are very high for sexual and physical abuse, along with neglect, frequently leading to a repeat of the cycle their mothers have experienced. Our daycare gives a safe, structured environment with stimulating and creative activities. In addition, we provide parenting classes to all mothers on a weekly basis. These are important services to safeguard children, and to break the cycle of abuse and trafficking. 1/9 EDUCATION Life-skills Workshops are fundamental in the process of equipping clients with skills to make healthy choices for their own welfare, and that of their children. Our workshops build clients' inner capacity of healthy decision-making and raising the standard of domestic, and psychological functioning, along with reducing the risk factors for re-trafficking, abusive relationships and negative life-choices. photo_2025-07-01 13.47.24 customer service training photo_2025-07-01 13.47.24 1/9 ON SITE CHURCH We operate a church and discipleship programs for our young women and men who are interested in finding out more about being a follower of Jesus. Attendance is voluntary! We run weekly discipleship groups for those who wish to go deeper into relationship with Jesus, and we also operate intercession sessions for both staff and program recipients to pray and intercede together. We provide healing prayer sessions for spiritual and emotional healing. We partner with local churches, regularly inviting local pastors to teach in our church.
